When You Feel Stuck

I hope this finds you in a season of abundance. I have been blessed to enjoy a season of rest and I am ever grateful because this fall will bring a new season of life. My husband is starting a new job and God is propelling me on a new path toward my calling. More info to come! Needless to say, I am relishing in this time knowing that my commitments ahead are changing.
Today, I was sitting outside enjoying the quiet after a rain storm. I have been practicing a season of rest and the biblical concepts of ‘being still’ and ‘it is well’ with my soul. I was sitting on our bench in the still of the morning when my mind began to wander. What about the bible study book I could have been catching up on? What about working on my prayer book that I should have been wrapping up? You see sometimes we have to fight for stillness. Have you ever felt dragged in two different directions? I often do. I think of all the things I could be doing or should be doing and find myself stuck somewhere in the middle.
That is where God found me today and pulled me out of myself. He brought my attention to our newest friend, a painted turtle that my daughter has since named “Rosie”. I noticed that ‘she’ seemed to return on rainy days to enjoy a small puddle that forms at the base of this mountain of a hill in our backyard (If you live in the mountains you know exactly what I mean). My husband’s theory is that she climbs up the giant hill but is washed back down with the heavy rains. Try as she might, she just can’t keep her little self at the top. I think it’s that way with us too. Sometimes when the storms of life come we find ourselves stuck in the same patterns.
I found myself praising God for bringing us a new friend because we had to give up our dog last week. A series of unfortunate events lead us to make the tough call to give up my husband’s best friend and running buddy. I got to thinking about how good God is that he would replace a big loss of our family in a way that we would least expect it. In fact, I hadn’t expected it at all.
You see, sometimes we get stuck and forget exactly how good God is. We allow ourselves to get stuck in our thinking, stuck in our circumstances, but he can bring light to even the darkest of situations. He can amaze us along this wild ride we call life with unexpected gifts, new heights, and higher lows than before. He can breathe life into a seemingly impossible circumstance. He can redeem lost souls, and restore broken relationships. He can woo us with a small gift such as a baby painted turtle named Rosie.
God is so precious, gentle, and kind. He shows us how much he cares for us in little ways each day. Yes, he does and has shown His love in mighty ways, but I find he shows it more often than we think in the everyday moments of life. If we keep ourselves so busy, we tend to miss the signs of Him. We overlook the beauty he has created all around us. You don’t need to live in the country or a desolate area to appreciate and see signs of Him. You can train yourself, with time and space, to tune into Him. This is my encouragement to you today; Ask God to show himself to you. Ask God to reveal himself to you in new ways today. Ask God to show you the signs of His wonder and he will. God shows up when we invite him into the quiet of our souls. He will meet you where you are at. He will change your patterns if you let him. He has already checked the RSVP box, he is merely waiting on an invitation. Be encouraged my friend!
